“That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs
according to the hope of eternal life.”
(Titus 3:7)
Grace is the lifeblood of the Christian life. Every blessing we possess flows from the undeserved favor of God toward sinners in Jesus Christ. While yet strangers to God, guilty before His law and unable to rescue ourselves, the grace, mercy, and love of God brought both redemption and justification to mankind through the glorious gospel of Christ.
Moreover, justification is God’s gracious declaration that the sinner who trusts in Christ is counted righteous in His sight. This righteousness is applied through saving faith in the Lord Jesus. The perfect obedience of Christ and His atoning death secure our acceptance before God, because He clothes us in the righteousness of Christ.
This gracious justification brings believers into a new relationship with God. Those who were once enemies are now welcomed into His family. Through union with Christ, believers are adopted as sons and daughters of the living God. The Judge becomes our Father. The One who might rightly condemn us instead receives us with love, granting us the privileges of children and the assurance of His fatherly care.
Scripture repeatedly declares that believers are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. And the inheritance promised to the children of God is eternal life itself—the full enjoyment of God’s presence, the perfection of holiness, the resurrection of the body, and everlasting communion with Christ in glory.[1]
Human inheritances may be lost, diminished, disputed, or stolen, but the inheritance secured by Christ can never fail. It is incorruptible, undefiled, and unfading, preserved in heaven by the power of God. This blessed hope of the believer is a confident expectation grounded in the faithfulness of God Himself.
Because of His marvelous grace, God not only rescued us from judgment but has brought us into His family and made us heirs of everlasting life. Through Christ we are welcomed into an eternal inheritance that will never perish. Such grace deserves our whole-hearted praise, reverence, and worship.
Contemplations:
- Wondering At God’s Mercy. When I consider what I deserved apart from Christ, I am amazed that God would show mercy to me at all. My sins deserved condemnation, yet He justified me through the righteousness of His Son. The more clearly I see my own unworthiness, the more brightly His grace shines.
- Rejoicing In My Adoption. It is a remarkable privilege to know that God receives believers as His children. I often think about how easily earthly relationships can disappoint, but my heavenly Father never changes. His love is steadfast and His care constant. Because I belong to His family, I can approach Him with confidence, knowing that He delights to hear the prayers of His children.
- Living As An Heir. The promise of an eternal inheritance helps me view present circumstances differently. Temporary losses, disappointments, and hardships cannot take away what God has reserved for me. My inheritance is secure because it rests on God’s promise rather than my ability to preserve it.
- Giving Glory To God Alone. The doctrine of grace leaves no room for pride. Every spiritual blessing I possess comes from God’s kindness. He planned my salvation, provided my Redeemer, and secured my inheritance. When I reflect on these truths, I am moved to give Him all the praise. The glory belongs entirely to the God who saves sinners by grace alone.
Prayer (Adoration):
Most holy and gracious Father, I adore You for the riches of Your mercy displayed in the gospel of Jesus Christ. You are the God of all grace, and every blessing I enjoy flows from Your kindness and love. Before the foundation of the world, You purposed to save a people for Yourself, and in the fullness of time You sent Your beloved Son to accomplish that great work of redemption.
I praise You for justification through Christ alone. You provided a perfect righteousness for guilty sinners and have freely received all who trust in Your Son. Your wisdom, holiness, justice, and mercy shine together in the work of salvation. What no sinner could accomplish through works, You have graciously given through Christ.
I adore You for adopting believers into Your family. You are not merely a righteous Judge but a loving Father. Through Christ You welcome those who were once far off and bring them near. You bestow privileges beyond all earthly comparison and grant Your children a secure place within Your household.
I praise You for the inheritance You have prepared for Your people. Eternal life, everlasting joy, perfect holiness, resurrection glory, and unbroken fellowship with You are treasures beyond measure. No earthly kingdom can compare with the inheritance reserved for the saints.
I worship You because Your promises cannot fail. Your faithfulness secures every blessing You have pledged to Your people. What You have promised, You will surely perform. What You have begun, You will surely complete.
Receive all honor, praise, glory, and thanksgiving for Your great salvation. Let my heart continually magnify Your grace and rejoice in the hope of eternal life secured through Jesus Christ my Lord.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
